"Remembering, out of the black silence. You were born in pain... You were born with hate and anger built in. Took a slap on the backside to blast out the scream. And then you knew you were alive. Eight pounds, five ounces. Baby boy Frankie Bono. Father doing well. Later you learned to hold back the scream, and let the hate and anger out another way..."Blast of Silence

(Universal Pictures, 1961)
Special thanks to Ed Brubaker for turning me on to this forgotten noir classic.
"They all hate the gun they hire."
ReplyDeleteGreat flick.
Sure is, JohnW. And man, I'm loving your blog! Great reviews, especially.
ReplyDeleteYea..."Blast of Silence" ranks right along "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" in the criminally-unavailable-on-DVD category...of course, there are those special places one can acquire such things, but really...we must behave.
ReplyDeleteNice site you got here !
ReplyDeleteBe sure to check out my blog about Orchid Care Tips
I hate when Nero Wolfe spams my blog.
ReplyDeleteFrom the TCM website, trivia about Blast of Silence:
ReplyDelete"Part of the movie was shot during the middle of a real hurricane - the wind seen during the fistfight is not artificial. It was filmed on Long Island during Hurricane Donna (September 10-12, 1960), the only hurricane of the 20th Century to strike the entire East Coast from south Florida to Maine."
Now that's hardcore. Filming a fight in a real hurricane.
