David Hale Smith is my literary agent, so you'd think he'd have my best interests at heart, right? So why does he point me to this crackin' podcast, Out of the Past: Investigating Film Noir, curated by Shannon Clute and Richard Edwards? The stuff is seriously addictive. A side-by-side comparison of Chandler's The Big Sleep and the Chandleresque The Big Lebowski. A study of Kubrick's The Killing and Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. Batman Begins and its hardboiled influences. Gun Crazy as the first New Wave noir flick. The significance of the dead pet monkey in Sunset Boulevard. For those of you who have a lot of time to kill, and not, you know, in the middle of writing a novel, I recommend it highly.
Thanks, Agent Smith. Thanks a whole hell of a lot.

Oooooooh, this is marvellous Leblanc - thank you! I am just listening to the Sunset Boulevard one right now. And Gun Crazy is one of my favourite noir films. I've signed up for the future podcasts. What a treat.
Whoops - that previous comment was me.
Kafka
What's funny is, Kafka, I knew it was you, even without a signature.
Aren't these podcasts great? I'm listening to another episode now (ASPHALT JUNGLE) while I'm waiting for sign-off pages here at the paper...
Oh, God, no. This is not good.
I can kiss this job, the screenplay, the two novels and my marriage good-bye right now.
Damn.
Wow, these are so great. I just listened to Sunset Blvd, The Killing and The Set-Up. Uh oh, where the hell have my kids gotten to?!
